Immortals of Aveum team Ascendant Studios has made the decision to delay its PS5 first-person shooter by a month. It was originally set to launch on 20th July 2023, but will now release on 22nd August 2023, a few days prior to Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. The developer says pushing the title back by four weeks will let it "realize our full vision" with extra polish, further optimization, and an all-round "strong launch".
CEO Bret Robbins said: "The recent feedback to the game proves to us what we already felt: that Immortals of Aveum is something special. In order to realize our full vision, we are going to take a few extra weeks, making our new launch date Tuesday, August 22nd. This will give us time to further polish the game, finish optimizing all platforms, and deliver a strong launch. We owe it to ourselves and to you to get this right."
Releasing under the EA Originals label โ the same as It Takes Two and Wild Hearts โ the magic-based FPS is the first game out of Ascendant Studios, which is comprised of former Call of Duty and Dead Space developers. As well as the aforementioned FromSoftware title, Immortals of Aveum will also compete for attention with Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield, both of which release a week later.

Oof, while I commend any game opting to take time to optimize and polish, I wonder if this is the right move considering what games it's going to be competing with on release.
The game just doesnโt look that good, honestly. I suspect this game is going to be a little rough.
I'm still somewhat interested in this, but it just went from having a pretty decent release date to an absolute death sentence.
This looks like it might be a cool game, but it's juuust generic feeling enough and launching in just the wrong time period I think it'll end up buried very quickly. Seems like it's probably quality gameplay, and looks visually polished, but it's kind of generic with no real hook to draw people in, launching between half the heaviest hitters in the industry.
Where exactly is that positive feedback coming from?
EA wanting to keep a game till it's finished. I'm shook. They usually send out any broken piece of garbage without a care, someone must be on vacation and left competent people in charge this week.
@Triumph741 Not saying I've seen anything myself but many of these upcoming games had closed doors demos during Summer Game Fest
Think I need a demo for this one. EA have been doing better recently (not EA sports)
That's a real shame, as that was going to be my July pickup with the expanse. Will wait and see as it's only a week or so before Starfield, so will see if feel can smash through it before.
Only a month.
SW jedi survivor repeats itself
@somnambulance This game is giving me HUGE "next-gen console launch title" vibes but with UE5 instead. I'm hoping for the best since a magic-only FPS feels fresh enough for me to try it.
@UnusedBabyWipes Yes, youโve got that exactly right. It looks like a generic launch title with cardboard characters. The magic fps idea sounds wonderful on paper, but it looks like the magic literally substitutes a rifle or whatever weapon instead of doing something that looks unique. I am hoping this game ends up better than it looks currently.
I'm looking forward. A year later when they get rid of bugs and make ti run longer without BSOD, but I'm looking forward.
@somnambulance Looks like you didn't play Heretic or Hexen...
SkillUp's hands-on preview was pretty positive, worth a watch for anyone who needs more info.
@Brydontk it's going to be competing any month it launches this year lol
Delay the game anytime you want, it will need a day one patch anyway and something will be broken, thats the standard nowdays except for Zelda ๐๐ ๐. Im starting to buy games when they are 3 to 6 months old specially to i) let them fix and improve ii) Release more content iii) Price drop. I have a big backlog anyway
With some of the recent releases that is under the EA Original games, this game still intrigued me and with a month delay isnโt too bad. Once it starts getting delay after delay throughout a couple of years, then you know something is up and itโs going to be a rough game
With Starfield available to play from 1st of Sept, plus some other big hitters I think this isn't going to pan out too great in regards to sales. The summer is very quiet and it is a shame they could not take advantage of that.
I'm not massively surprised, given it was a month away we hadn't heard too many more details. To be honest I'm not sure about this one, it looks quite generic.
@KaijuKaiser @NEStalgia @Toilet_Goat It definitely feels like they're sending it out to die in August.
I just don't see how it will compete against the likes of these three games.
Atlas Fallen - August 10
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon - August 25
Baldur's Gate 3 - August 31
